On the 16th of October, 2013 we were visited by Mr Marcus Cornaro, Deputy Director of EuropeAid, Mr Andrew Jacobs the EU Ambassador to the delegation of the European Union in the Pacific accompanied by the Head of Operations in Fiji Mr Renato, together with other members of the EU and press. Reflections from Benjamin Narayan from the NCD Team This week has been a very busy week for both the NCD and RH teams. The RH Team had two workshops during the week. One of the workshops was conducted in the Lautoka district and the other in Nadi and therefore, they needed the support from all VSHC staff.  On Monday and Wednesday the NCD Team helped the RH Team to organize the two workshops for teachers.                                               This week started a very exciting phase of the Reproductive Health Program at Viseisei Sai Health Centre. This program is being funded by the European Union to empower rural women and girls in RH.  On Monday we had the 1st workshop of the 3 for the school teachers.  These workshops are to be held in Lautoka, Nadi and Ba. Reflections by SN Ake on RH Activities of the week (13/05/13 – 17/05/13). We usually start our outreach clinic at 9.30am. Pre knowledge, attitude, practice and barrier based questions are administered to the patients followed by an education session on Cervical cancer screening, STI’s and family planning. These are done by the health   educators before the patients are seen by the doctor and nurses. On Wednesday we saw 22 patients at Velovelo Indian Settlement. Reproductive Health Workshop

Representatives of women's groups from throughout the district were recently invited to participate in a Womens Awareness workshop run by the Reproductive Health team. The workshop was held at VSHC on May 3rd. The aim of the workshop was to contribute to the empowerment of rural women and girls in regard to their own reproductive health. There were presentations on a range of problems that women face in their daily lives followed by group discussions on how they can make a difference for themselves and in their respective communities. Repositioning Family Planning Conference.

On April 9th, 2013 Professor Gyaneshwar spoke at the "Repositioning Family Planning" Conference held at Viseisei in the village hall. Other participants were United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reproductive health advisor Doctor Wame Baravilala, Colonial War Memorial Hospital head of gynaecology Doctor James Fong, and the officer-in-charge UNFPA Pacific Lorna Rolls.  The conference was well covered by Margaret Wise from the Fiji Times who wrote a range of articles covering different aspects of the conference.                                      … Read more >>
