Reproductive Health team report

On the 16th of October, 2013 we were visited by Mr Marcus Cornaro, Deputy Director of EuropeAid, Mr Andrew Jacobs the EU Ambassador to the delegation of the European Union in the Pacific accompanied by the Head of Operations in Fiji Mr Renato, together with other members of the EU and press. The RH team was conducting outreach at Matawalu Village, outside of Lautoka. Assoc Professor Swaran Naidu presented to the delegation on women's challenges in Fiji, and an overview of the RH project.

A total of 49 women attended the clinic where the team conducted education sessions on cervical cancer, breast examinations, sexually transmitted infections and family planning. An empowerment message was also delivered which boosted the morale of the women.

BUKUYA/NANOKO TRIP:

On the 29th of October, the RH team left to conduct outreach clinics in Bukuya and Nanoko Villages which are located in the Nadi Subdivision. Bukuya is about 60 - 70 kilometres from VSHC. The team left at about 7am and arrived at the Bukuya Health Centre at around 9.30am. The Bukuya Medical area has a population of more than 2000 people within 4 villages and 4 settlements and is looked after by NP Susana Bari.
In the evening the team conducted an education session for the youths.

The road to Nanoko Village.

The team spent the night at Bukuya and from there went up to Nanoko Village. Nanoko village is looked after by Staff Nurse Theresa. She also looks after 4 other villages and 4 settlements.
All women who attended the clinic were informed and educated on reproductive health, and counselled about STIs and family planning.

OVERVIEW:

So far the RH team have seen almost 3000 women with a little over 2000 pap smears. Together with these pap smear and breast checks the team educates and counsels women on reproductive health, STIs and family planning.
