VSHC has come a long way in learning to work with the community. Most recently we had a meeting with the Chairman of the Ba Provincial Council and the Roko Tui Ba. Fiji is divided into 14 provinces for iTaukei administrative purposes. The Province of Ba is the largest and we from Vuda are part of it. VISEISEI PRIMARY SCHOOL VISIT ON “PERSONAL HYGIENE AWARENESS” Dr Kris Naidu and Sister Diaskisi Daivalu of Viseisei Sai Health Centre visited Viseisei Primary School on the 25th of July, 2014.                                     HOME GARDENING FOR WELLNESS A project of Viseisei Sai Health Centre funded by the Wellness Unit of the Ministry of Health Healthy nutrition and physical activity are both important strategies in promoting Wellness. Viseisei Sai Health Centre (VSHC) was successful in receiving a grant from the Ministry of Health to promote home gardening in the Viseisei Health Zone. The project commenced on 15th May, 2014. Meeting with the Vanua of Vuda & Declaration of No Smoking Zones The assistant Turaga ni Koro and the NCD team from VSHC consisting of Prof Rajat, the statistician Sheetal and Jenny, Namrata and Sr. Daivalu visited the Taukei Nakelo who is the traditional Executive Head of the Vanua of Vuda. VUDA DISTRICT SCHOOL VISIT ON “PERSONAL HYGIENE AWARENESS"   The Viseisei Sai Health team visited Vuda District School upon receiving an invitation from the school’s Head-Teacher, Mr Peniasi Naqau, to make a presentation at the School’s teacher-parent forum on the 6th of May, 2014. The team was led by Dr Kris Naidu, who was accompanied by Sister Diaskisi Daivalu, Health Promotion Officer Mosese Baseisei and Zone Nurse Sokoveti Ravula. UNDP/UNFPA Visit

A high level UNDP (United Nations Development Program) delegation visited VSHC on 25/04/14. They were excited about the strategic directions of the VSHC project on sexual and reproductive health. They were complimentary about the fact that the project was directed at empowering women and girls to better look after their reproductive health. The family planning agenda now is a broader one, which emphasizes women's rights for social and economic equity. Girmit Day talk

On May 14th there was a celebration held at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka in memory of the Indentured Labourers who came from India to work on the sugar cane farms. Rajat was the chief guest for the function and gave the following talk. Reproductive Health Team Update

The RH team has so far visited 38 rural areas in Lautoka, 43 in Nadi, and 2 in Ba and have delivered education to approximately 7295 people, seen 3337 in the outreach clinics and performed 2338 Pap smears. The team has conducted 3 workshops for Nurses (Zone, district & Family Planning Nurses) on an "Update in Reproductive Health" particularly on Family Planning. Itaukei Community challenge

Engaging the Itaukei Community in reducing life style risk factors for NCDs. There has been a serious lethargy on the part of the Itaukei community being involved in health activities in the Vanua of Vuda. The villages involved include Viseisei, Lomolomo, Lawaki and Natalau. The NCD life style risk factors namely smoking, alcohol and kava intake, eating habits and lack of physical activity are serious issues in the community as shown by the VSHC mini STEPs survey.
