Reproductive Health Workshop

Representatives of women's groups from throughout the district were recently invited to participate in a Womens Awareness workshop run by the Reproductive Health team. The workshop was held at VSHC on May 3rd. The aim of the workshop was to contribute to the empowerment of rural women and girls in regard to their own reproductive health. There were presentations on a range of problems that women face in their daily lives followed by group discussions on how they can make a difference for themselves and in their respective communities. Repositioning Family Planning Conference.

On April 9th, 2013 Professor Gyaneshwar spoke at the "Repositioning Family Planning" Conference held at Viseisei in the village hall. Other participants were United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) reproductive health advisor Doctor Wame Baravilala, Colonial War Memorial Hospital head of gynaecology Doctor James Fong, and the officer-in-charge UNFPA Pacific Lorna Rolls.  The conference was well covered by Margaret Wise from the Fiji Times who wrote a range of articles covering different aspects of the conference.                                      … Read more >>

The Viseisei Sai Health Centre believes that through awareness and interventions, NCDs and​ their risk factors can be controlled. This can be accomplished through changing of diet, doing more physical exercises, quitting smoking and reducing the intake of alcohol and kava in the community. The health centre invited the Celebrity Chef Lance Seeto to come and share his expertise on healthy cooking tips with the community of Vuda. International Women's Day Celebration

International Women's Day was celebrated at the Health Centre on March 8th, 2013. The theme for the day was "A Promise is a Promise – Time for Action to End Violence against Women". The Head of the EU Delegation for the Pacific, Ambassador Andrew Jacobs was the official guest and he used the occasion to officially launch the VSHC project entitled "The Empowerment of Rural Women and Girls in Reproductive Health". VSHC goes solar

VSHC was donated a Grid Connect Solar System by the Rotary Club of Kerikeri Inc, New Zealand through Mr Mahmood Khan. Through its work, the health centre managed to attract the attention of the Kerikeri Rotarians, who helped the centre install a $38,000 solar panel system that will reduce its use of electricity from fuel-powered generators. The installation of the Solar System was provided free of charge by the Managing Director, Mr Bruce Clay of Clay Engineering Limited, Suva, Fiji.  Clay Engineering has also offered to service the unit without any charges when the need arises. Flood Relief

The Western Division of Fiji suffered severe flooding in December 2012. One of the zone areas of VSHC, the Lomolomo village was badly affected by the flood and almost all houses in that village were underwater. VSHC trustees and staff made donations of food packs and stationery to the 51 families in the Lomolomo village. The items were personally handed over by the staff of VSHC.

Community Health Workers Program

The Community Health Workers (CHWs) Program is in line with the Ministry of Health national work plan that is to be implemented at a national level. Viseisei Sai Health Centre is one of the first Public Health facilities to implement this project where 15 volunteers were chosen to be trained as health workers for their community. There were many who showed interest in the first few rounds of community meetings that were held 18 months ago. The training of the workers took place between September and November 2012.
