Former Vice President of Fiji visits VSHC. - Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi The centre was privileged to host the RokoTui Bau, former Vice President of Fiji, Lord Tagatatoga of the Kingdom of Tonga and currently the Chief Justice of Nauru. Ratu Joni Madraiwiwi is the son of Ratu Dr. Joni Antonio Rabici Doviverata who is the younger brother of Ratu Sir Lala Sukuna. His mother is Adi Losalini Raravuya Uluiviti from Natauloa in Nairai. Three year on - Budyong and Lesley Hill visit Viseisei.
On September 5th, 2014 we finally returned to Viseisei. Four years ago at this time of the year we were living in the cottage and making steady progress with the construction of the Health Centre. At that time we were just putting the finishing touches to the roof which was a very satisfying milestone. Working with the Community.
VSHC has come a long way in learning to work with the community. Most recently we had a meeting with the Chairman of the Ba Provincial Council and the Roko Tui Ba. Fiji is divided into 14 provinces for iTaukei administrative purposes. The Province of Ba is the largest and we from Vuda are part of it. Vuda District School Visit.
VUDA DISTRICT SCHOOL VISIT ON “PERSONAL HYGIENE AWARENESS" The Viseisei Sai Health team visited Vuda District School upon receiving an invitation from the school’s Head-Teacher, Mr Peniasi Naqau, to make a presentation at the School’s teacher-parent forum on the 6th of May, 2014. The team was led by Dr Kris Naidu, who was accompanied by Sister Diaskisi Daivalu, Health Promotion Officer Mosese Baseisei and Zone Nurse Sokoveti Ravula. Girmit Day talk
On May 14th there was a celebration held at the Girmit Centre in Lautoka in memory of the Indentured Labourers who came from India to work on the sugar cane farms. Rajat was the chief guest for the function and gave the following talk. Girmit Divas 14/5/14 Brij Lal in his book entitled “Girmityas” writes a concluding poem and dedicates the authorship to the ghost of one girmitya perhaps of the Leonidas. Itaukei Community challenge
Engaging the Itaukei Community in reducing life style risk factors for NCDs. There has been a serious lethargy on the part of the Itaukei community being involved in health activities in the Vanua of Vuda. The villages involved include Viseisei, Lomolomo, Lawaki and Natalau. The NCD life style risk factors namely smoking, alcohol and kava intake, eating habits and lack of physical activity are serious issues in the community as shown by the VSHC mini STEPs survey. Workshops attended by Admin and Finance Staff
EU Workshops A three day “Audit Coaching” workshop conducted by the European Union was attended by our Admin & Finance Manager together with the Medical Directors and other key staff. This workshop was held at VSHC from 25th to 27th February 2013. The objective of this workshop was to provide audit coaching services to build and further strength the staff capacity in financial reporting and management. Visiting Doctors/Electives
The year 2014 has so far been very busy in terms of doctors. VSHC has had some visiting specialists coming and volunteering their time. We had 2 volunteer doctors with one elective. Dr Chris Reynolds who is a retired GP from Queensland was with us from 2nd January to 17th January 2014. Dr Amrat Lad from New Zealand, a senior GP was with us from 10th February to 13th February 2014. Both the doctors helped us in seeing our general outpatients. Dr Finau Dansey attachment.
Dr Finau Dansey has commenced a 12 month attachment at VSHC to assist with the strengthening of the Public Health component of VSHC activities. She brings 12 years of clinical experience which will be invaluable both in general outpatient services and the outreach work in the Non Communicable Diseases and Sexual and Reproductive Health areas.
