This workshop was organised by Viseisei Sai Health Centre (VSHC) staff in partnership with Empower Pacific.

A Community Health Worker and Stakeholder Workshop was held on Tuesday 31/01/2017 at Viseisei Sai Health Centre. The aim of the workshop was to further educate and upskill Community Health Workers (CHWs), stakeholders, and members of the community, with a focus on physical, mental, social and spiritual aspects of health.  Representatives from Nakolia, Seniyaya and Vatulaulau communities attended.  Associate Professor Dr. Swaran Naidu and members of the CCOHSI Project team discussed various topics including non-communicable diseases and the SNAP (Smoking, Nutrition, Alcohol, Physical Activity) principle, sexual and reproductive health, the role of CHWs in their community and community development projects within the CCOHSI Project.
The role of the CHW was discussed using small focus groups. A CHW is defined as a community member whose main role is health advocacy in their home community.
